Texas. It’s like a whole other country. At least that is their slogan. It actually was for about ten years after it gained independence from Mexico. And that is why it is The Lone Star State. My paternal side is from Texas, so it was a little extra special when there on a school trip in High School. We went to Dallas where we visited Dealey Plaza, scene of JFK’s assassination. There is a great museum there that explains what happened, plus alternate theories. If there is nothing else you do in Dallas, this is a must. We also visited the set of the old Dallas show. Since I had never seen it, there was no meaning for me. If you go to Dallas on New Years, the Cottonbowl is a lot of fun even if you donโt like football!
I went again to Texas in my 20s, once to Houston where I saw NASA and then to Austin where I met some coworkers. We had A LOT of barbecue! If you can’t get there, maybe you can get some Texas BBQ Sauce.
If you are into the bar scene, visiting the famous 6th Street is fun. San Antonio is also a 90 minute drive away. The San Antonio River runs through the city, so an architect had a smart idea to build a riverwalk around it. Now the Riverwalk is the place to be in San Antonio.
It is also a short stroll from The Alamo, which has an important place in history.
Texas is such a huge state, I think it will take multiple visits to see all the sights.
