Review of Peru Hotels

listed in the order I stayed

Westin Lima

The Westin Lima was great. Since I am a Platinum Bonvoy member they gave us an upgrade and let us check in extremely early. They also arranged transportation for us from and back to the airport. The rate was $70 or so in each direction. I tend to pay the higher rate of service when I arrive to a new location in order to get my bearings, but I did find a different service for the end of our trip at a much better rate. The service at the hotel was perfect. The hotel was quiet and clean and exactly what we needed after a long overnight flight. I also love bathrooms with a bidet, which this had. They have an indoor pool that we unfortunately didn’t have time to use.

Inkaterra Hacienda Conception

I loved Inkaterra Hacienda Conception, with one exception: the beds felt damp because humidity is so high. Otherwise, it was awesome. The food was fantastic and is included in the room rate. In fact, we had the best lomo saltado in all of Peru there. You do have to pay for all drinks, but it isn’t that expensive. Our assigned guide was always prompt and full of information. My husband and I also thoroughly enjoyed massages here, provided by Susana. She is a gem. If you want to visit the jungle, but in more comfort, this is a great lodge.

Tambo Del Inka

elevation 9,420′

I believe Tambo del Inka is rated one of the best in the world and deservedly so. It is amazing. There is a guarded entrance, making it feel quite secure. The grounds are spectacular, the food was delicious and the service was fantastic. We were upgraded here as well so we had a one bedroom suite with a patio. And of course the bathroom had a bidet! They charge a small resort fee that includes a few activities. My husband and I took part in the thermal circuit, which was an interesting experience. It begins with laying on beds with water jets that gently shoot onto your back and legs. Then you move on to more jets and waterfalls, each intended to massage different parts of your body. You end in the hot tub and cold plunge pool. The lights make it quite a romantic activity. The mistake we made here was not staying multiple nights.

Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel

elevation 6,693′

Located on beautiful grounds and less than a 10 min walk to both the train and the bus up to Machu Picchu, I really wanted to love this hotel. It is truly gorgeous. But I was very disappointed by the food here. Breakfast and dinner are included in the room rate and left a lot to be desired. However, the service is fantastic and I loved the fireplace in my room. We arranged our trip and guide to Machu Picchu through the hotel, which was great and seamless. Our guide was knowledgeable and patient. However, upon getting to the site, we discovered multiple circuits. I wish I had known that in advance to ensure that circuit(s) I would be seeing were exactly what I wanted, something I think the concierge should have discussed with us when we made the arrangements. Circuit 2 was chosen for us. And after going over the circuits upon my return home, I do think the Circuit 2 was most appropriate.

Restaurant

We saw a Cock of the Rock near the restaurant, but it flew away before we could get a picture. The grounds are spectacular and must be stunning when it is orchid season.

Palacio Del Inka

elevation 11,152′

Palacio del Inka is a beautiful, centrally located hotel in Cusco. We were upgraded, which gave us basically a regular hotel room plus an extra bedroom. Entering directly into the regular hotel room part made the space feel small, but the large bedroom was great. The food is good and the breakfast is wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour of the hotel and the Pisco demonstration, both which are included in the stay. Service was also amazing here. The staff knew who we were and were friendly and helpful. I would not hesitate to return.

JW Marriott Lima

We received an upgrade at the JW Marriott as well. We were on an upper floor with gorgeous views of the Pacific Ocean and paragliders soaring past our windows. Upon check in we were told about construction and noise from 9-6. While it wasn’t bad, it would have been nice to know in advance. Also, the pool is closed in the winter since it is outside, which coincides with the USA summer. Service was good here, but I preferred the Westin.
