Louisiana
I went to New Orleans with my boyfriend (now husband) and some friends a couple of years after Hurricane Katrina. The evidence of the storm was astounding.ย You could see holes in roofs where people had tried to escape the floodwaters.
The French Quarter was quite pretty and it is there that I developed a love for a good Bloody Mary. It just so happened we were there when the annual Krewe du Vieux parade occurs. If you are interested in raunchy, then this is the parade for you. It is absolutely not appropriate for children.
We also went into the bayou to see some alligators. We were not disappointed! Louisiana is known as The Pelican State but an alternate is the Bayou State.
I was not prepared for how cold it would be in the South in February. Luckily I had a nice pair of leather gloves. My light jacket was not warm enough!!
