Virginia is a state that is rich in history. It is home to Jamestown, the first English settlement in the colonies, thus making Virginia the first of the overseas territories, also known as dominions of the King of England. No surprise it is The Old Dominion State. Supposedly it was named after Queen Elizabeth I who never married and was known as the Virgin Queen.

On my first Virginia visit, my parents and I drove through the gorgeous Shenandoah Valley, but I was so tired from all the hard work of University, I slept the entire way. They enjoyed the scenery and I got my rest thanks to a comfortable pillow like this one!

Arlington National Cemetery and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier are must-see landmarks in Virginia. The cemetery is a place of immense importance and visitors can pay their respects to the many service members who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Manassas is another historical site that visitors can explore. This battle site is well-preserved and offers a glimpse into the past.

Colonial Williamsburg is another living history museum that provides a fun and interactive experience of colonial life during the American Revolution. These are just some of the many historical landmarks and sites that Virginia has to offer, and it is a state that is definitely worth visiting for anyone interested in American history.

After all of the heavy history, Busch Gardens in Williamsburg is a fun place to visit if you are a thrill seeker like I am!

The White House of the Confederacy, home to the American Civil War Museum, is yet another place that is worth the time. The museum provides information on the causes and consequences of the war and explains how these issues continue to be relevant today.

A tour of Monticello, home of Thomas Jefferson, provides insight into his troubled history. For example, he wrote that “all men are created equal” yet owned over 600 slaves. Visiting the property is definitely worth the time.

I love history, so maybe that is why Virginia is for Lovers.
